Mishap at the Gloucester Model Boat Show

Fran and myself demonstrated our model Griffons at the Gloucester model boat show, held in June 2003, where Frans model suffered a mishap that was very surprising.

He was running his model up and down the dock at some speed when, while heading into wind, the wind gusted and his model overturned. The amazing thing was that it overturned front to back. It effectively rose into the air as if it was going to fly then flipped on it's back.

It was quite funny when the ESC obviously having blown its FET's sprang into life and created a fountain from the upturned lift duct.

The model was retrieved and the RC equipment removed with some haste. The equipment was then flushed off with warm fresh water and then dried off under a hand blower.

Following a night in the airing cupboard the equipment was connected together and tested. The only damage was one FET blown on the ESC which was removed. The ESC is now operating to a reduced spec.

The photographs were taken by one of the members present and show a fascinating sight with the lifeboats and a tug gathered round the upturned model. It could be a real life disaster site.
