Introduction
Hovercraft have always fascinated me since, as a schoolboy back in 1959, I read of the SRN1 trials taking place on the Solent.
During the 70s I built and operated a free flight model of the SRN1 produced by the Aeromodeller plans service. This model had no skirt and was powered by a PAW 19 diesel motor.
I later built a free lance model using a Cox 049 glow motor, again without radio control.
As I was flying model aircraft at this time, using Galloping Ghost radio systems, the model hovercraft building was stopped. The radio equipment I was using did not have the servo power required for hovercraft control.
Having spent more than 50 years building model aircraft, gliders, boats and helicopters a new challenge was needed. By chance I came across Mark Porters web site and was impressed by the development that had taken place in model hovercraft. His model of the Griffon 2000 really appealed and once I had downloaded Marks document on building this model there was no turning back.
The model has given me a lot of fun while operating it and has gone through many experimental changes in the quest for speed and efficiency.
These pages attempt to document the route taken to operating a successful model.
