 Brief History:

 Fran Oakey designed this craft sometime in 2007. It was scratch built using mainly light ply and balsa. The craft has appeared at many shows and due to its size and performance it has attracted a lot of interest.

 After the International Model Boat Show at Warwick in November 2007, with Fran’s permission I decided to look at manufacturing the Griffin-600 as a kit at a reasonable price making it affordable for most people. I had a target price of around £50. This would attract the Aero modellers who seem to have many spares lying around and ideally suited for this type of craft.

 In December I set about re-designing the craft to suit 3mm Depron and manufacturing constraints. Tooling, Sourcing of materials and suppliers began in December 2007. In January 2008 the first prototype appeared at the Model Engineers Exhibition at Alexandra Palace. The Griffin ran through out the show giving demonstrations under the MHA banner.

 Fran attended the show on the Saturday, this gave him a chance to evaluate the crafts performance. He was impressed with the way the prototype performed. Along with the very positive comments I received from various people at the show I had decided to invest in the tooling with the aim of releasing the Griffin-600 in early Spring 2008.

Designed by Fran Oakey, The Griffin-600 semi-scale model hovercraft is currently being manufactured by Palaform Ltd and is now available directly from the manufacturer. The Griffin-600 is constructed from pre-cut 3mm white Depron making it very light and giving very good performance on land and water. The craft measures 600mm x 300mm and comes with all materials required to make the structure including, glue for Depron, decals and a pre-stitched skirt ready for mounting.
